The Boys and Girls Club of South Alabama’s purpose is to provide year-round youth development programs designed to enhance the quality of life for the young people of Mobile County. Our programs are based on principles of behavioral guidance, which promote leadership, character, health and physical education and emphasize the importance of education and cultural growth. Purpose accomplishment means we are providing “The Positive Place for Kids.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

Available Mentoring Programs

The clubs operate five days a week after school during the school year and all day during the summer. These after school programs participate in activities within the five core areas developed by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. These areas include:

  • Character & Leadership Development: Programs in Character and Leadership Development empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.
  • Education & Career Development: Programs in Education and Career Development enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
  • Health & Life Skills: Programs in Health and Life Skills develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
  • The Arts: Programs in The Arts enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
  • Sports, Fitness & Recreation: Programs in Sports, Fitness and Recreation develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.

Participant Requirements

Each potential mentor is required to submit to a background check before they can me matched.
